Spring Break Horse Camps: March 23 - 29, April 6 - 12 , April 13 - 19 2008

top
We are offering three one-week Spring Break camps starting March 23rd, April 6th, and April 13th. If you want any other week please let me know by phone (209) 847-5924 or email jane@shadylawnhorses.com. We need at least 3 weeks advance notice in order to get a staff together for the camps. A minimum of 5 campers is needed to have a camp. The weeks people have asked about will be advertised here, along with the number of campers needed to fill the camp.

Both overnight campers and day campers are welcome.

Daily activities include feeding the horses and cleaning the stalls, a riding lesson in the covered arena, and instruction in horsemanship. The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) manuals are used as a study guide. Campers progress through the skill levels by taking a written and riding test at the end of the week. In addition to riding, campers learn about the care of horses, and participate in tacking them, and washing and grooming them. A fun horseback riding activity is held in the afternoon, such as a relay game, vaulting, a trail ride, or bareback riding. Other activities include swimming (weather permitting), games, and crafts.

Overnight campers need to arrive Sunday between 2:00 - 4:00 PM. Day campers attend Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. An exhibition riding demonstration is given by the campers for parents on Saturday between 10:00 AM and 11:30AM. Camp ends at 11:30 AM on Saturday.

Summer Horse Camps: June 16-July 19, 2008

top

Summer camps run weekly beginning June 16th and continue through July 19th. An exhibition riding demonstration is given by campers for their parents on Saturdays.

We are limiting the number of overnight camps to only 3 weeks this year; therefore, space is limited so we encourage you to register early! Please note in the schedule below if it says "Day Camp Only" there is no overnight option provided that week.

Other activities include swimming, games, and crafts.

Each week of summer camp has been assigned a different theme for riders at levels 3 & 4. Click on the theme for the camp dates below to see the description of the assigned theme. Riders at Levels 1 & 2 will work on basic riding skills. They will not be involved in the Higher Level themes. If you are new to Shady Lawn Ranch and believe you are a higher-level rider, you will need to attend 1 week of camp to complete your levels 1 & 2. This way we can assess your riding skills, teach you the "ropes" of the camp, and determine readiness for Level 3 riding.
