What to bring to Spring Camp

Pack the following items in the smallest, softest bag that contains only what you need. Avoid bringing things that you won't need or items not listed below. Use a cloth duffle bag or backpack without wheels. Wheels don't do well at the ranch.

  • Riding boots or boots with a heel of at least 1/2 inch (we have some to loan)
  • Two pairs of closed-toed shoes
  • Raingear and warm jacket
  • Helmet (we have some to loan)
  • Hat and gloves
  • 5-6 shirts or tops (1 or 2 long sleeved shirts are a good idea, too)
  • 4-5 pairs of pants/1-2 pairs of shorts
  • 3 sweatshirts/sweaters (fleece doesn't do well as hay gets caught in it)
  • A swimming suit, pool shoes, and pool towel (swimming only if weather permits)
  • 8 pairs of socks/underwear
  • Nightclothes to sleep in, like thermals or sweats
  • Sleeping bag, blanket, and pillow
  • Flashlight
  • Book to read or something quiet to do during rest time
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, 2 towels, washcloth, soap, and shampoo
  • Comb or brush
  • If you have been to camp before:
Please bring your CHA manual from your previous camp session

If you need medication, you must bring a note explaining how to administer it, and authorizing Shady Lawn Ranch personnel to administer.

What NOT to bring:

  • Audio or video equipment
  • Extra food or snacks (unless you have dietary restrictions, then food must be kept in the kitchen)
  • Chewing gum

Overnight campers need to arrive Sunday between 2:00 - 4:00 PM. An exhibition riding demonstration is given by the campers for parents on Saturday between 10:00 AM and 11:30AM. Camp ends at 11:30 AM on Saturday.
